Gold for Cash? Right!

This is going to be a short piece today because I can't take watching these commercials anymore. Why would somebody actually think that if they put their gold in a special envelope and mail it away they will get an honest, fair market value for it in the mail a day later. That's right, I said a day later. I watched this commercial too many times to know I heard right. The woman said she "sent back my first wedding ring and received a check the very next day"! WOW! I guess the increase in the postal rates really did buy faster service. Yeah, RIGHT! I knew that after making this type of claim the rest of the offer had to be far from true. What they don't tell you when you send in, say a class ring, is that most of the weight of that heavy ring is mostly junk metal that you are mot getting anything for. I wouldn't pay someone for it either, why should they. Every time there is a commodity that spikes in value you will always find marketers that are right there to make some money on it.
Seller beware, the gold you are mailing may have more value as a complete piece sold to a jeweler, or pawn agent, than you will receive as 'scrap' value. Several jewelers told me the same thing. Oh yes, what happens to any stones that are attached to the gold? I'm sure those will be returned with your check. Right? ;)

Who's It Gonna Be?

I have a political question I'd like to put to you the reader of this blog. It's not a difficult question, just a question to see how politically savvy you really are. Okay? Here we go.

Do you vote for Obama because he is the best qualified black candidate, or
Do you vote for McCain because he has a female vice presidential running mate?

If you answered Yes to either of these scenarios you are indeed an IDIOT! Look what you are voting for? Your vote will determine who leads the largest free democratic nation in the world! If you cast your vote because he is BLACK or she is a WOMAN you are throwing away something that many, many people wish that they had. A vote that counts! I could care less what color someone is or what kind of genitalia they have. I want someone who will use all of their skills and abilities to successfully lead this country back to where we were before the dark time of the past 8 years.

I sincerely hope that whoever wins this election, they will go beyond basic expectations and respect our wishes as Americans, as well as get us back the respect we once had, with other nations that we lost under President Cheney's time in office. No, that's not a typo, think about it.
Be smart! Be selfish! Vote for the BEST candidate based on who they are, not what they are.
I've said my part, now go out and do yours. Get out and VOTE and make your voice count.

ps. I'm sure the Clintons would like to see McCain/Palin win so that Hillary can go up against Palin in 2012. I don't think John McCain's health will allow him any more than 1 term if he wins. Just my opinion and observations.

Note: The size, placement and postures presented in the pictures shown are in no way indicative of any candidate I am supporting, or trying to direct more attention towards. I tried to get a decent picture of both parties.

That Slippery Stuff from Where? Who's Packin?

I'm a little sleep deprived so I wanted to ask a question. It is my understanding that most of the crude oil, the United States imports, is from our neighbor to the north, Canada? So why is it then we are so dependent on what level of oil production the middle east can turn out to set our prices? Also, why is it that the oil companies seem to be portrayed as 'victims of circumstance' that happen to be reaping huge profits at the same time? One last thing to ponder because I still don't understand. How is this supposed to work out for the consumer? Why do we give the oil companies these tax breaks for developing 'NEW' energy alternatives to break away from fossil fuel dependence? Isn't it their primary duty to ensure we stay addicted to fossil fuels? Wouldn't alternative energy be contrary to their business plans? I know if I ran the oil conglomerates I would do everything in my power to stop alternative energy sources to continue my windfall profits. I guess I would make a bad executive in this field, or would I? In Florida, Governor Charlie Crist has fought long and hard to stop offshore drilling because of environmental and tourism reasons (people from Wisconsin, or wherever, don't want to see oil rigs many miles out in the Gulf of Mexico. Talk about great eyesight!). I don't think the Chinese oil drilling contractors care about all that while they prepare to drill off the coast of Cuba for oil for the Cuban govt. Hey, isn't that the same body of water next to Florida? Too bad their safety and environmental standards don't meet ours. By the way, did I mention something Gov. Crist did fight to get into law? In Florida you can legally bring a gun to work but you must leave it in your car trunk (I guess that means you don't need to drive home to get it when you get fired, it's already there). Disney World was trying to fight it because they have classrooms on the property but the fight wasn't going too well last time I heard anything. I think I'm tired now and I thank you for your patience. These are just my thoughts and if I am mistaken please let me know so I can make any necessary corrections.
Till next time.
